Lexus All-Wheel Drive: Two winning approaches
August 28 2020,
All-wheel drive is very common throughout the industry today, but the systems proposed by manufacturers are different. At Lexus, we offer vehicles that are always ready to hit the road with competent all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive systems specifically designed for the driving experience you expect from a luxury product.
When it comes to the types of gears found on Lexus models, there are two.
First, the most common is the so-called all-wheel drive system. This system offers a technology that reacts to the road conditions encountered. If the system detects a skid or instability, power is redirected to two or four wheels to optimize traction on various road surfaces.
In addition, the feeling of safety is enhanced by the Lexus Cornering Control function, which is part of the system. When cornering on ice or snow, front and rear wheel drive forces automatically adjust to compensate for understeer or oversteer. However, the wheels receive extra power only when needed, so you can always count on high fuel efficiency.
Next, there's a four-wheel drive system. This is found on the two SUVs most likely to find themselves off the beaten path, the GX and LX models. What's special about this system is that it continuously sends power to all four wheels to ensure superior traction, regardless of the type of surface the vehicle is on.
Lexus models equipped with this system also benefit from Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), which applies automatic braking to any wheel that spins and sends power back to the wheels with traction. As a result, road handling is optimal and constant, even in the most difficult conditions.
As you can see, in all circumstances, Lexus vehicles offer optimal performance depending on the conditions and, above all, on their vocation.
