Lexus stands out in the 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Lexus vehicles once again stood out for their quality and their reliability, this time finishing fifth overall in the latest 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

This study examines which vehicles and brands deliver the greatest level of quality during the first 90 days after purchase. To make that determination, J.D. Power contacts over 80,000 consumers who have purchased a new vehicle in the last three months and asks them about their experience. These consumers are asked to answer over 220 questions that give J.D. Power a complete and comprehensive view of the overall reliability of a given vehicle.

With an average of 157 problems per 100 vehicles, Lexus finished fifth overall in early quality, tied with Genesis. Moreover, Lexus finished ahead of Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Acura, Infiniti, and Audi among others in the J.D. Power rankings. 

The Lexus IS which has been redesigned for 2022 finished first in its segment as well, ahead of the BMW 3 Series and the Genesis G70. These latest results are further proof of the impressive quality and reliability provided by Lexus vehicles. The J.D. Power IQS study touches on a variety of elements that determine reliability and quality. According to the study, overall vehicle quality has decreased this year with an average of 180 problems per 100 vehicles in the automotive industry. Most luxury brands were below this average with even more problems. Examples include Audi, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo that all finished well below the average.
