June 16 2023,
Lexus, renowned for merging luxury with rugged capability, has unveiled the all-new 2024 GX 550, an adventurous SUV steeped in two decades of innovation and the brand's quintessential quality. Lexus Director, Martin Gilbert, indicated that the 2024 GX 550 is a testament to the brand's commitment to delivering everyday luxury alongside outstanding offroad capabilities.
The first-generation GX made a stellar entrance into the North American market back in 2002, quickly winning over enthusiasts with its formidable off-road prowess. Building on this legacy, the 2024 GX 550 arrives with an aggressive exterior design, effectively expressing the robustness of a true body-on-frame SUV. Its exterior also brings a square-body profile with a horizontal design motif, adding a unique flair to the model.
This bold SUV will be offered in six distinctive grades: Signature, Premium, Luxury, Executive, Overtrail, and Overtrail+. Among them, the Overtrail grade stands out as the first-ever for Lexus, coming standard with 33-inch All-Terrain tires and 18-inch wheels.
Beneath its rugged shell, the GX 550 houses a powerful twin-turbo 3.4L V6 engine, capable of producing an impressive 349 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. This power, coupled with an 8,000 lbs. towing capacity, ensures this SUV is prepared to tackle any journey. The addition of a hybrid powertrain, due to be unveiled at a later date, underscores Lexus's commitment to sustainability without sacrificing performance.
On the inside, the GX 550 provides a serene and luxurious environment for both driver and passengers, marking a harmonious blend of rugged exterior and upscale interior. The vehicle's intuitive technology and interior touches mirror the thoughtful design of the RX, ensuring a journey steeped in comfort and modernity.
The interior also boasts the 14-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display with Lexus Interface technology, standard Apple CarPlay Integration and Android Auto compatibility, and a digital 12.3 Multi-Information Display. It seats up to seven passengers, with optional seat configurations for enhanced convenience and comfort.
The GX 550 rides on the GA-F platform, which increases body rigidity and on-road handling – a key element of the Lexus Driving Signature. This is coupled with a newly developed double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension to deliver both off-road and on-road performance.
Equipped with the standard Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, the 2024 GX 550 offers an array of active safety equipment including Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), among others.
The all-new Lexus GX 550, made at the Tahara plant in Japan, is slated to hit the market in early 2024. With its thoughtful design, robust capabilities, and luxurious offerings, the 2024 GX 550 is certainly set to raise the bar in the premium off-road SUV segment.
