The Technologies that Improve the Fuel Economy in the Lexus UX
March 28 2022,
The Lexus UX is a very small premium crossover that is one of the most efficient gasoline powered vehicles on the market du to its many technologies.
An advanced drive mode selection system.
The Lexus UX allows you to choose between 4 drive modes in order to better suit your driving style or the road conditions. Of these, the EV mode and the Eco mode will help you achieve the best efficiency. The EV mode transforms the UX into an electric vehicle by avoiding the use of the gasoline engine in many circumstances. For instance, when driving in the city, the hybrid system’s battery allows the UX to drive for some distance without using any fuel. This is also very useful in heavy traffic that is continually stopping and starting, since the UX can follow by using only the electric power, which makes it silent and smooth. The Eco mode is also helpful, especially when driving faster. This mode cuts back on the air conditioning system’s output and reduces the sensitivity of the accelerator in order to limit the harsh accelerations and the loss of energy.
The hybrid powertrain
The Lexus UX is available with only one powertrain: The Lexus Hybrid Drive. This system is crated by adding an electric motor between the 2.0L gasoline engine and the CVT transmission. This allows both the motor and the engine to power the front wheels, which they can do at the same time. To provide the best acceleration, both systems are combined to deliver 181 horsepower, despite consumption figures that remain at a very low 5,7 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway. Another way in which this system improves the efficiency of the UX is by making it act as an electric vehicle when starting from a stop, using the torque of the electric motor to pull away and then adding the power of the gasoline engine to reach its cruising speed.
